Our company is Christmas Decor and we are a franchise. The Franchise office has around 250 franchisees or offices throughout the United States. Being part of a franchise does have some advantages. We have people that we can call to discuss where to buy the best lights in the industry, which products are the best, problem shooting, or any number of specific industry questions.
We also attend National Conferences which keep us in the loop on the cutting edge of the best technology and best practices within the industry. We are not in our own bubble here, but we have samplings across the country of the best practices and this becomes a huge support system for any franchisee. It gives us samplings of the best technology and products available. The number one responsibility for the Franchisor is to make sure that each franchise is successful to ensure that they continue to receive their franchise fees and keep the brand strong.
We currently own Christmas Décor Franchise territory in South Carolina. I’ll first talk about our Charleston territory, which includes servicing: Daniel Island, West Ashley, Charleston, Folly Beach, Downtown Charleston, Mt Pleasant, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island. We also own the territory of Bluffton, SC which is the inland area of Hilton Head Island. The Hilton Head area has been a hotspot for Christmas Décor for years with the Sea Pines display, Dove Street Shelter Cove projects as well as Daufuskie Island Light house and Moss Creek subdivision. Many of these can be found in Google thru local newspaper articles and archives.
We also have the Franchise territory of downtown Columbia, SC. Our service areas include West Columbia, Lexington and Elgin. This area of South Carolina seems to get into the Rival spirit and use colors that represent Gamecocks or Tigers and have a lot of fun implementing these into their traditional displays. Columbia has also been a great area because of the popular subdivisions that are decorated each year. We do decorate areas of Lake Murray and surround lake homes.
Our forth territory is the Myrtle Beach area. Decorating in the Grand Strand area has been fantastic. Some of our notable projects are Barefoot Creek & Resort, Sky Wheel, Boardwalk, bars and restaurants in Murrel’s Inlet, Litchfield by the Sea, a car lot in Little River as well as residential homes. As we think about Christmas décor as it relates to these different venues I’d say that about 85% of our Christmas Décor commercial customer base are primarily using the elegant white lights. It is great for outlining the buildings and really making them pop.

While we are celebrating Jesus’ birthday we are also celebrating the festivities that surround Christmas including Thanksgiving and New Year’s. There is a lot of celebration going on during this time of year so making your home or business inviting really makes the season enjoyable. The other 15% use multi-colored lights and in my option resemble Christmas lights from my childhood memories. I’d say they are more of the hard core Christmas decorators. If you light your house up with a million multi-colored lights and it looks like Chubby Chase’s Christmas, then- well, you get the idea.
Most HOA’s don’t go for that, but we do see it from time to time and we are always happy to accommodate all “styles”. We also have a few people that are in-between where they use primarily white lights on the home, but then decorate their palm trees with multi-colored tops and I think these yards look great too!
Our state tree is the Palm Tree and decorating the trunk with white lights and greens in the tops is also becoming popular. In the winter it gets dark a lot earlier and kind of slows down people’s active lifestyle. I’ve seen more than one person light up their yard just to be able to spend more time outside in their yard and enjoy more light during the winter season.
